Biography

Based out of Brisbane, Golden Sound is, according to The Good Guide, "a combination of jazz, soul, funk and sonic sex.”

Resembling the classic 1970s feel good funk sound, with swirling synths, driving rhythms and sizzling horns - Golden Sound creates a palette of sonic goodness.

Golden Sound delivers the much anticipated new album 3 Points of Contact

Alongside the sexy vintage funk that Golden Sound is known for, the new album introduces a modern 80's edge. The first single and film clip The Search epitomises this new direction, exploring a cosmic synth-rock influence.

Multi-instrumentalist Peter G delivers a diverse album of material, with swirling synths, driving beats and layers of vintage instrumentation.

The new songs feature guest vocal appearances from the super talented Laneous, who appears on several tracks, alongside Hayden Andrews from Cheap Fakes and Louise O'Reilly from Laneway fame.

The new album was recorded over several years in Peter G's vintage studio and at the Tanuki Lounge. Both studios offered the ideal space to capture a 70's inspired sound, reminiscent of the golden age of music.

Paulie B (George/Beautiful Girls) mixed the new album at Ya Ma Nui studios, and the result is a cosmic journey into a world of space funk and synthesised sonic goodness.

The new music sees a shift from previous releases Give Me Sight Give Me Sound and Bathing in Goodness, to include a more diverse palette of musical influences. The album explores different sonic soundscapes that blend modern beat production with traditional instruments and sounds.

“Peter G is a local institution. When it comes to funk that wants you want to get down on the dance floor and strut a move or two, he is the master.  In his latest incarnation, Golden Sound, Mr G has produced an album so sunny and fuzzy and damn right cool you’ll want to recline in a banana lounge with a tasty view of the pacific for company.  Warm analogue Rhodes, Hammond and moogs are definite standouts: though lashings of space disco and Parisian 60’s charm interlaced with a platoon of smooth vocals, add extra spice to a record that proves world class funk players are residing in our own backyard.” ~ Scene Magazine

“Vintage Sounds takes a mood shift as Golden Sound brings the funk. Peter Golikov, accompanied by Charles Wall and Chris Bosley, looked and sounded the part of the cool phsychedelic band you would see adorned on a 1970s vinyl. Golden Sound gets the feet shuffling and hips swaying. It was a combination of jazz, soul, funk and sonic sex.” ~ The Good Guide

Golden Sound’s live ensemble regularly features the following talented musicians:

Peter Golikov / Vocals, Keyboard, Synth
Chris Bosley / Bass
Tony McCall / Drums
Travis Jenkins / Guitar

About peter golikov

Hi I’m Peter Golikov. I’m a musician and the creator of Golden Sound.

I began my musical journey in 1986, studying classical piano for 10 years, and a natural progression then led me towards jazz and funk music, and later to hand percussion and drums in 1995.

During the last 15 years I have performed and collaborated with countless artists and producers from Australia and abroad, including supports for Moloko, Derrick Carter, Reggie Watts, Bamboos, Crazy P, and Norman J.

After two vinyl releases through Gallery in 2003, with my previous band Pty Ltd, I traveled to America where I had the opportunity to perform in New York, Chicago and L.A, plus several weeks recording and performing in Kathmandu, Nepal.

During my career I’ve been lucky enough to perform at countless Australian music festivals including; Good Vibrations, Falls Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, Parklife, Sydney Festival, Island Vibe, Greenfest & Playground Weekender. A career highlight was performing on the same stage as the late James Brown, at Good Vibrations in 2006.

My love of funk and soul music drove me to create Golden Sound in 2007.

Much love,

G
